The Eight State-Managed Scholarships and Grant
Idaho offers a range of scholarship and grant programs for residents who have graduated — or will soon graduate — from an Idaho high school (or equivalent) and plan to attend a college, university or eligible training provider in the state.
Scholarships and grants are available in several categories:
- Merit-Based Scholarships – Based on academic achievement and other accomplishments
- Need-Based Scholarships – Based on financial need
- Dependent Scholarships – Available to students with parents who meet specific service qualifications
General Application Process FAQs
Am I eligible for State of Idaho scholarship and grant programs if I did not graduate from an Idaho high school but lived here for a long time and I am a resident?
You are not eligible for scholarship programs unless you graduated from an accredited Idaho high school, homeschool, or its equivalent (earned GED or HSE in Idaho).
Is the GPA requirement negotiable?
It is not. The GPA requirement is set in the Administrative Code, and exceptions cannot be made.
Do I have to complete a FAFSA for state scholarships?
Yes. The Tschudy Scholarship has a FAFSA deadline of February 15. The Opportunity Scholarship has a FAFSA deadline of March 1. Applications with late FAFSAs cannot be considered. It is a good idea to submit your FAFSA as soon as possible once it opens on October 1, in case there are issues with your application.
Can I put my scholarship or grant on hold if I am awarded?
Students who are currently receiving one of our scholarships can complete a Leave of Absence form with our office 60 days before they start their absence. Please log in at https://isbe.smapply.io/ with your login information. Then click on “programs”. The Leave of Absence form is located within the Scholarship Management Forms. You can put your scholarship on hold for up to two years. New awardees must attend at least one semester before requesting a leave of absence. If you are a new awardee and you cannot attend the first semester after you are offered the scholarship, you must forfeit the award and apply the following year.
Do you have scholarships or grants for graduate students?
At this time, none of our programs can be used for graduate work except Tschudy.
